Fraktion Sans
Serious type. Slightly off.
Fraktion Sans
Forget neutrality, Fraktion got just enough edge to raise an eyebrow.
Fraktion Sans
Fraktion Sans walks the line between mechanical cool and human clarity—with boots planted firmly in the present and just a whisper of the past. Born from the structured world of vintage signage lettering, this isn’t some nostalgia trip. It keeps the square proportions and compact caps, but everything else has evolved into something sharper, smoother, and way more usable.
Fraktion Sans
There’s a quiet tension running through Fraktion: a grotesque with industrial undertones, shaped for modern use. Its squared-off curves, vertical terminals, and steady cadence bring a calm authority to screens and editorial layouts, while little hits—like that dramatic spur on the lowercase ‘a’, or the subtle ink traps—add just enough personality to keep things interesting. It doesn’t shout. But it doesn’t fade into the background either. Use it in all-caps and the signage roots peek through—bold, precise, a little imposing. Use it in mixed case and it becomes something entirely different: modern, adaptable, unexpectedly expressive. It’s a chameleon with a steel backbone. And when it’s time to go mono? Fraktion Mono flips the mood. Still built from the same design DNA, but reengineered for fixed-width functionality, it adds a surprising playfulness to a genre typically locked in rigid logic. It’s got just enough quirk to keep the code-crowd happy, without losing design credibility. Both families are packed with OpenType features—from case-sensitive punctuation to stylistic alternates, fractions, and slashed zeroes. And yes, 7 weights + italics, all available as variable fonts. So whether you’re going clean and sober, or throwing shapes in a brand system, Fraktion gives you the tools to do it with control—and just the right amount of twist.

Structured to misbehave.

Fraktion Sans is a contemporary grotesque exploring the space between mechanical sturdiness and expressive clarity ● While its inspiration stems from vintage signage lettering, the final design is a rather far departure.

The square shape and the compact capitals are the only remnants of the original influence and when set in all-caps the industrial spirit is vaguely present. Even so the typeface has been shaped to a modern, versatile allrounder with a slight technical feel that works great in sober applications for screen and in editorial - and still maintains character to be a strong voice in branding ■ An exaggerated spur on the lowercase 'a' and ink traps are defining visual characteristics just as the squared-off rounds’ true verticals help create a steady cadence.

The proportional Sans is complemented by a fixed-width design: Fraktion Mono. The refitted letter shapes of the monospaced design add a surprising playfulness to a genre that generally feels more technical, making Fraktion Mono’s cuts the more informal bunch of the family ▲ Both typefaces offer plenty of typographic solutions through OpenType features like case sensitive punctuation, stylistic alternates, fractions and slashed zero. The 7 upright weights each have an italic counterpart and both sets are available as variable fonts.
